Albaicín

Granada

The Albaicín - or Albayzín - is a beautiful labyrinth of a neighborhood that climbs up a hill and provides excellent view of the Alhambra and Generalife.

It is full of tiny alleyways, plazas, churches, convents and palaces and comprises one of the oldest parts of Granada, along with the Alhambra. Up until 1568 the neighborhood was essentially Muslim.

There are numerous monuments and groups of historic buildings dating from distinct time periods, though fundamentally Nasrid and Renaissance.

UNESCO declared it to be a World Heritage Site in 1994.
