Summer Camp in Guanajuato
- Ages: 14 to 18 years old
- International students only
Location
For nearly 200 years beginning in 1558, Guanajuato was one of the richest silver producing cities in the world. The city possesses many subterranean passageways and narrow, winding streets that make this location truly unique. Houses line the steep slopes of a ravine that once contained a river. This extremely charming city is culturally very lively and possesses an energetic, youthful personality. This is due in part to the 15,000 students attending the University of Guanajuato, which is known for its art programs. During the last two weeks of October, Guanajuato hosts the Cervantes Arts Festival, attracting famous artists from around the world.
Capacity
- 130 students
Special Junior Program
Our Guanajuato program consists of 20 hours of Spanish classes each week. Students will be divided into classes according to their language level, which we will determine with a placement test on the very first day of hte program. Students can also participate in a variety of interesting activities and excursions which range from museum visits to salsa dance classes, cultural workshops and weekend trips!icnic at Presa de Mata (local lake).
When not in class, our teen participants enjoy an independent lifestyle. After the first day, when host families accompany students, program participants are responsible for getting themselves to and from school, the host home and any other commitments they make. They are also expected to comply with the mandatory curfew. During free time, students can email at school, go horseback riding, participate in sports with friends, go to the movies or spend time with their host family.
This independent lifestyle also means that, unlike most other camps, afternoon activities and weekend excursions are entirely optional; however we encourage all students to take advantage!
Facilities
Students at our Summer Camp in Guanajuato will attend classes in a quiet residential neighborhood of Guanajuato and just 10-15 minutes from the city center. Although summer camp participants will share the same facilities as adult participants, all language classes are grouped by age and language ability.
Our school boasts an open, casual atmosphere and include indoor classrooms, a multimedia room, free internet access and a sunny terrace.
Accommodations
Guanajuato Summer Camp students will stay with a local Mexican host family, where they will share a room with a fellow camp teen participant. Along with creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for students, host families also provide students with 2 meals per day and will enforce the nightly curfew (weekdays 9:00pm, weekends 10:00pm) with which students are expected to comply.
